From wine region to wine region – double Study Tour program at the BOR 2025 Hungarian Wine Summit

2025-08-17

The aim of the BOR 2025 Hungarian Wine Summit is not only to showcase the diversity of Hungarian wine, but also to enable the international professional audience to experience it first-hand, directly at the production sites and in the company of winemakers. That is why one of the biggest innovations of this year’s event is the expanded Study Tour program: while in 2024 the tours took place on a single date after the conference, this year we are organizing this experience on two separate occasions with twice as many itineraries, allowing participants to visit up to four different wine regions.

Twice as many possibilities, twice as many experiences

The Study Tour programme consists of two rounds. The first will take place on 8–9 September, before the conference days in Budapest, and the second will take place on 12–13 September, after the conference. On both occasions, participants can choose from five different itineraries, with each tour covering two different regions. This not only ensures thematic and geographical variety, but also allows guests – whether importers, sommeliers or wine writers – to get to know the character of the Hungarian wine regions in depth and in person.

Last year, four routes ran parallel, and the Etyek wine region was presented as part of a separate half-day program. This year, however, Etyek will appear as a full partner as part of a complex tour of western Hungary alongside Sopron, Pannonhalma and Budafok. This will further enhance the value of the experience and the geographical coverage.

The itineraries (same structure in both tours):

  • Tokaj–Eger: Two historic wine regions, iconic varieties, volcanic terroir and complex red wines
  • Szekszárd–Villány: The wine heart of the south – Kadarka, Kékfrankos and distinctive blends
  • ” A Balaton körül”: Fresh, crisp whites, sparkling wines, volcanic aromas and panoramic views of Lake Balaton
  • Badacsony–Balatonfüred-Csopak-Somló–Észak-Balaton: Wines born of volcanoes, unique wineries, ancient grape varieties
  • Budafok–Pannonhalma–Sopron–Etyek: New this year – sparkling wines, traditions, abbey wineries and discoveries close to the capital

What does a Study Tour offer?

During the two-day tours, guests visit at least two wine regions. In each region, they visit two wineries and take part in a walk-around tasting, where wineries from the region can introduce themselves, including those from regions not included in this year’s itinerary. These events offer tasting opportunities and allow wineries to present their wines, styles and stories in a more personal, informal setting with an international professional audience in a smaller, more intimate setting. This format complements the B2B meetings in Budapest and the Tasting Zone programme perfectly, creating an even more personal experience.

The Study Tours thus not only complement, but also establish and deepen the value of the Budapest conference days – with real “field experience” that brings faces, stories and flavors to life.
