Tokaj-Oremus was established in 1993 by the owners of Spain’s iconic Vega Sicilia. The estate’s vineyards are spread over ten viticultural areas in four municipalities within the wine region. In the different areas, the vineyards have varied vulcanic soils and microclimatic conditions. Semi-precious stones such as jasper and obsidian are often found in the soils, which are formed on volcanic rhyolite and andesite bedrock. The newly built winery was open 1999 in the centre of Tolcsva. The estate embodies a unique combination of the spirit of traditional and modern winemaking. The four to six hundreds years old labirynth of cellars are part of the UNESCO world heritage since 2002.
