Hungarian Bubbles – Traditional Sparkling Wines from Hungary

Sommelier Péter Tüű led this masterclass exploring the 150‑plus years of sparkling wine tradition in Hungary. The presentation mapped Hungary’s sparkling wine terroirs, highlighted both classic and regional grape varieties, and spotlighted special Hungarian styles. If you are interested in how terroir, technique, and grape choices bring sparkle to Hungarian wine, this masterclass provided a rich resource.

Volcanic Terroirs – Wines with Minerality

This masterclass, with Robert Gilvesy and Master Sommelier John Szabó, dove into the volcanic soils of Szent György‑hegy and other key Hungarian regions. We explored how minerality from basalt, tuff, and old volcanic formations translates into flavor, acidity, and texture. For wineries and marketers, this presentation offered excellent examples of terroir‑driven storytelling and production practices.

Hungarian Red Wines and Carpathian Grape Varieties

Presented by Andrea Gere and György Lőrincz Jr, this masterclass showcased indigenous red grapes and wine styles of Hungary — from Kadarka and Kékfrankos to Villányi Franc — and the blends that define regions like Eger. The tasting emphasized both tradition and modern style, and included examples of how red wine quality has improved with organic practices and refined vineyard management.

Sweet Tokaj – The Crown Jewels of Natural Sweet Wines

László Mészáros (Disznókő) and Dr. Péter Molnár (Patricius) guided this deep dive into Tokaj’s legendary sweet wines. The masterclass covered natural sweet wine styles (Aszú, Szamorodni, etc.), microclimate impact, noble rot, and balancing elegance with sweetness. The tasting was especially useful for anyone wanting to learn how Tokaj styles can be communicated beyond “dessert wine.”
